JR East’s Narita Express to Be Partially Suspended
JR East announced on November 4 that it had discovered an issue with its JRE ID common ID service in which internal system user identification numbers were duplicated.
When some users accessed linked services, there was a possibility that another user’s JRE ID could be displayed incorrectly. The item displayed incorrectly was the JRE ID (an email address, or a string set by the user other than an email address). The issue occurred from 2:03 a.m. on October 29 to 3:03 a.m. on November 3 and affected up to 546 users. JR East said the cause was a defect resulting from a system version upgrade for the JRE ID service conducted on the night of October 28.
JR East temporarily suspended JRE ID access for 4,188 users who may have been affected and implemented recovery measures. It has now confirmed that incorrect displays are no longer occurring. Users whose IDs may have been displayed incorrectly will be contacted individually as soon as preparations are complete. The company is working to resolve the duplicate user identification numbers and will gradually resume service for users once the work has been completed.
JRE ID is a common ID service available for online services offered by the JR East Group in Japan. It is linked with 14 services, including JRE POINT and Mobile Suica.
