‘Piyorin’ Strong Against Horizontal Shaking, Weak Against Vertical Shaking, Revealed by Vibration Experiment
JR East Food Service, with the cooperation of the Hitachi Research Team, has released a video of vibration experiments on ‘Piyorin’.
In the experiment video, which used a vibration device typically for research and development of railway vehicle components, the vibration level was gradually increased, and it was recorded as ‘Piyorin’ started spinning and eventually collapsed.
It was found that ‘Piyorin’ is stronger against lateral shaking than expected, but weak against vertical shaking. It can collapse when it floats and then hits the edge of the plate upon landing or breaks apart from cuts such as wings.
To avoid collapsing while taking out, they recommend “buying an even number as they fit better”, “inserting an ice pack in the gap”, “keeping the paper bag horizontal when holding it”, “putting it in a cooling bag that fits the size of the box”, “walking slowly and avoid giving shocks as much as possible”, and “when on a train, place the paper bag on your lap and support it firmly”.
Based on the experiment results, JR East Food Service has stated they will actively work on improving takeaway packaging materials more than ever to ensure ‘Piyorin’ can be brought back cute and intact.
