Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has selected American Airlines as the anchor carrier for its future West Terminal. The facility will be the airport’s first new terminal in approximately 40 years.
American Airlines is the airport’s largest carrier, accounting for around 40% of its operations. It carries more than 20 million passengers annually and operates more than 300 daily flights at peak times, serving over 100 cities including destinations in Alaska, Hawaii, and London.
American Airlines Chief Executive Officer Robert Isom commented, “Phoenix holds an important place in our network, and we are pleased to continue investing in the future of the airport and the region.” He added, “The West Terminal will further connect Phoenix with destinations around the world and position the city to lead the next generation of travel.”
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego commented, “The West Terminal is a transformative investment in the state’s economic future and will set a new standard for the passenger experience.” Chad Makovsky, Director of Aviation Services at the airport, said that American Airlines was selected as the new terminal’s anchor tenant following months of analysis.
