Ethiopian Airlines Receives Its First Airbus A350-1000, a First for an African Airline
Ethiopian Airlines has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, becoming the first African airline to do so.
This aircraft is the first of four announced in July 2022 due to an order change, aimed to bolster services to key destinations such as Washington, London, Paris, and Frankfurt.
The aircraft has 395 seats, with all business class seats facing the aisle. It features Thales’s in-flight entertainment system, “AVANT UP,” and Airbus’s satellite communication system, “HBC+”.
During the delivery flight from Toulouse to Addis Ababa, the aircraft carried over 100,000 euros worth of medical supplies in collaboration with Airbus. It was welcomed with a water salute upon arrival.
Ethiopian Airlines currently owns 21 Airbus A350 aircraft and plans to introduce 11 A350-900 and 3 A350-1000 models over the coming years. The introduction of the A350−1000 model is expected to be completed within the next few months.
