ANA Unveils Pokémon Jet Green for International Routes

All Nippon Airways (ANA) unveiled its special Pokémon-themed aircraft, “Pokémon Jet Green” (Boeing 787-9, registration JA923A), to the media at a hangar at Tokyo Haneda Airport on September 18. The aircraft is the second installment of a special project commemorating Pokémon’s 30th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of ANA’s international services, following “Pokémon Jet Red” (Boeing 787-8, registration JA819A), which entered service on domestic routes on July 29. It will begin operating on international routes the same day.

In addition to Pikachu, the aircraft features 10 Grass-type Pokémon that appear as the player’s first adventure partners in titles in the Pokémon game series. The left side features Bulbasaur, Sprigatito, Chespin, Snivy, and Haburo, while the right side features Turtwig, Treecko, Rowlet, Grookey, and Chikorita. Haburo is a new Pokémon set to appear in the latest title, “Pokémon Wind Wave,” scheduled for release in 2027.

Original-design headrest covers are provided in Premium Economy and Economy Class. Original-design paper cups and cocktail napkins are also used on board. For approximately two months after the start of service, original stickers will also be distributed as boarding souvenirs, while supplies last.

At the unveiling event held in the hangar, Pikachu and the other Pokémon featured on the aircraft made an appearance. They energized the venue with a performance of the “Poké Dance.”

The inaugural flight will be NH186, departing Tokyo/Haneda for Honolulu at 9:55 p.m. on September 18. Through March 27, 2027, the aircraft will be deployed on routes from Tokyo/Haneda to Honolulu, Seattle, Vancouver, Sydney, Manila, Singapore, Delhi, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Kuala Lumpur, as well as routes from Tokyo/Narita to Perth, Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Mumbai. As assigned routes may change depending on operational conditions, they will not be determined until the day of operation.

To coincide with the launch, the second phase of ANA’s collaboration with the smartphone game Pokémon GO also began the same day. Specially designed PokéStops and Gyms have been installed at 14 participating airports: Kochi, Matsuyama, Takamatsu, Tokushima, Fukuoka, Saga, Miyazaki, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, Nagasaki, Oita, Ishigaki, Miyako, and Okinawa/Naha. At Gyms at participating airports, users can enjoy Raid Battles and encounter Pokémon with a limited-edition Location Background from the Pokémon Jet Green collaboration.

As the third installment of ANA’s collaboration with Pokémon, “Pokémon Jet Blue” (Boeing 737-800, registration JA56AN), featuring Water-type Pokémon, is scheduled to enter service on domestic routes from December onward. (26 photos follow.)
