Emirates Expands Safety Training for Cabin Crew with VR for Door Operation and Fire Response
Emirates is expanding its cabin crew training to include safety training using Virtual Reality (VR).
The immersive virtual training platform ‘MIRA’ is extended to safety training, enabling completion of regular SEP training. Initially, two modules, door operation and firefighting, are available.
The cabin interiors of Airbus A380, Boeing 777, and Airbus A350 aircraft are realistically replicated, with various views of emergency slides, parking areas, jet bridges, and both water and land provided. Training on door operations for demonstrating and evaluating abilities related to standard operating procedures during normal and emergency situations, as well as firefighting training using fire extinguishers equipped with visual and auditory effects of smoke, flame, and extinguishing agent, simulating fires in ovens, overhead bins, and lavatories are available.
Using VR headsets, a 3D version can be performed in three different modes: education, practice, and evaluation. 8 to 10 cabin crew members can simultaneously undergo training and evaluation on the same scenario. A 2D version is accessible from mobile devices or computers, allowing knowledge updates without having to visit the training venue.
Complex and dangerous situations can be recreated, enabling training until adequate capability and confidence to handle emergency situations onboard are achieved. Additionally, it eliminates the need to construct and maintain more facilities, interiors, and equipment, leading to environmental and cost savings.
