[Feature] JAL’s New International Airbus A350-1000: A Closer Look at the Premium Economy Class with Spacious Seating
JAL’s 7th Airbus A350-1000, ‘JA08WJ,’ Arrives at Haneda Ahead of the 7th Aircraft Due to Delivery Sequence Change
Japan Airlines (JAL) has welcomed its 8th Airbus A350-1000 aircraft (registration: JA08WJ) to Haneda Airport on December 7.
JAL has ordered a total of 13 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. The first aircraft (JA01WJ) arrived at Haneda on December 15, 2023, followed by the second (JA02WJ) on January 15, third (JA03WJ) on March 31, fourth (JA04WJ) on August 1, fifth (JA05WJ) on August 11, and the sixth (JA06WJ) on October 3. Normally, the 7th aircraft (JA07WJ) would be next in line for delivery. However, due to a change in the assembly schedule at Airbus, the 8th aircraft was received ahead of the 7th, according to JAL.
The ferry flight JL8102 left the Airbus factory in Toulouse at 2:17 PM local time on December 6, took off 39 minutes later, and, after flying over the Caspian Sea, Central Asia, and the Bo Hai, landed on Runway A at Haneda Airport at 11:19 AM on December 7, arriving at Spot 212 in front of the hangar 25 minutes later. Three flight crew members were aboard.
The Airbus A350-1000 aircraft is JAL’s new flagship for international routes, succeeding the Boeing 777-300ER. It commenced service on January 24 and currently operates two round trips daily on the Tokyo/Haneda to New York/John F. Kennedy route, one round trip daily on the Tokyo/Haneda to Dallas/Fort Worth route, and every other day on the Tokyo/Haneda to London/Heathrow route.
The cabin has 239 seats in four classes, with First Class offering 6 seats in a ‘1-1-1’ configuration, Business Class 54 seats in a ‘1-2-1’ setup, Premium Economy 24 seats in a ‘2-4-2’ layout, and Economy Class 155 seats in a ‘3-3-3’ arrangement. For the first time in JAL, both First and Business classes feature private suites with doors. In-flight Entertainment (IFE) systems in all classes introduce 4K resolution monitors, and are Bluetooth-capable for connecting wireless headphones.
JAL plans to have 8 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft in operation within this fiscal year, with the 7th aircraft, whose delivery was swapped, expected to be transported to Haneda Airport soon.
