JR East to Operate Overnight Trains on 7 Lines in the Tokyo Area from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day
Tokaido Shinkansen Sets Up ‘Children-Friendly Cars’ for the Year-End and New Year Holidays
JR Tokai will set up ‘children-friendly cars’ on the Tokaido Shinkansen during the year-end and New Year holidays, from December 27 to January 5, 2025.
In targeted trains, Car 12, which is located near the multi-purpose room and multi-purpose toilet, will be designated for parents and children, allowing them to use the Shinkansen without worrying about their surroundings. The targeted trains are the down “Nozomi 343, 357, 373” and up “Nozomi 348, 364, 380,” with designated dates varying by train.
Until the fiscal year 2023, this service was sold as a travel product named ‘exclusive cars for passengers with children’ by JR Central Tours. However, starting from the fiscal year 2024, reservations can be made similar to regular tickets through online reservation ‘EX Service’ or at station counters. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. one month before the ride.
The price is the same as for regular reserved seats in ordinary cars, and children under six who share a seat with their guardian can ride for free. If a child under six uses a seat by themselves, a ‘child’ ticket is required.
Moreover, during the same period, all “Nozomi” trains will have all seats reserved, with no non-reserved seats available.
