ZIPAIR Tokyo Launches Ticket Sales for Summer Schedule on Tokyo/Narita to Vancouver Route
All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Singapore Airlines concluded a joint venture (JV) agreement on April 17. This marks ANA’s first JV agreement with an Asian airline.
The two companies have been in a partnership since 2004, conducting interlining and codeshare flights. They signed a strategic comprehensive partnership agreement in January 2020 in preparation for the JV launch, initially planned for the winter 2021 schedule. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed. On April 19, 2024, they received conditional antitrust immunity (ATI) approval from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and in March of this year, conditional approval from Singapore authorities.
During the summer schedule, ANA operates three daily flights on the Japan-Singapore route: two round trips between Tokyo/Haneda and Singapore, and one round trip between Tokyo/Narita and Singapore. Singapore Airlines operates ten daily flights: three round trips each on the Tokyo/Haneda-Singapore and Osaka/Kansai-Singapore routes, two between Tokyo/Narita and Singapore, and one each between Nagoya/Chubu, Fukuoka, and Singapore.
The JV will expand flight and fare options for customers, increase eligible booking classes for mileage accumulation, thus enhancing convenience for the mileage members of both airlines. Joint fares for Japan-Singapore flights from September will be released in May. Note that the subsidiaries Peach and Air Japan (except for contracted flights from ANA), and Scoot flights are not included in this agreement.
At ANA’s comprehensive training facility “ANA Blue Base (ABB)” in Ota Ward, Tokyo, a signing ceremony was held where ANA President Shinichi Inoue and Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong exchanged contracts. President Inoue remarked, “By collaborating with these two world-leading brands to enhance synergy, we aim to provide our customers with unprecedented highest-quality value.”
The two companies plan to apply for approval in four additional JV target countries beyond Japan and Singapore: Australia, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
Besides this, ANA operates JVs with United Airlines between Asia and Latin America, and with the Lufthansa Group between Japan and Europe. Singapore Airlines runs JVs with the Lufthansa Group, Air New Zealand, Scandinavian Airlines, and Garuda Indonesia.
