The Macao Government Tourism Office and Air Macau held the ‘Macao Tourism + MICE Product Update’ on April 16.
A media round table and interviews with Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, were also conducted.
In 2024, the number of visitors to Macao is expected to reach about 35 million, recovering to 89% of 2019 levels, and this year could potentially surpass pre-COVID numbers. The number of Japanese visitors has exceeded 126,000, a 68% increase from the previous year, entering the top ten, though it remains at only about 43% of the 2019 levels.
Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes stated, ‘In the Japanese market, the senior demographic cannot be ignored, but the number of younger visitors is increasing. We want to focus on Generation Z, reaching them through the times and technology, particularly using social media.’
