JR East to Implement One-Man Operation in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area, Starting Next Spring on the Joban and Nambu Lines
JR East has announced that approximately 249,000 people were affected due to a suspension of service on the Yamanote Line from the night of May 22 to the morning of May 23.
At around 9:40 PM on the 22nd, damage to the pantograph horn was confirmed on multiple trains on the Yamanote Line, and it was found that it would take considerable time for inspection and measures, leading to the suspension of operations for the outer loop trains.
At approximately 12:37 AM on the 23rd, a severed auxiliary trolley wire was detected within Shimbashi Station, initiating inspection and provisional restoration work of the overhead wire equipment. The work was completed around 4:56 AM. Operations resumed at 6:00 AM on the Keihin-Tohoku Line between Shinagawa and Higashi-jujo Stations, at 7:08 AM on the inner loop of the Yamanote Line, and at 8:26 AM on the outer loop of the Yamanote Line.
The cause is presumed to be a disconnection of the auxiliary trolley wire due to a fitting connection defect, which subsequently damaged the pantograph horn upon contact. The details are under investigation. An urgent inspection of similar connection parts, where construction was done in the past year, is to be conducted by the first train on the 24th. (Image: JR East)
