Isumi Railway to Resume Operations Between Ohara and Otaki Stations in Fall 2027

Isumi Railway announced that it aims to resume operations in the fall of 2027 and will proceed with restoration work.

A derailment accident that occurred between Kuniyoshi and Kazusa-Nakagawa stations on October 4, 2024 has caused the suspension of all line services. The two derailed cars remained at a standstill, but both were transferred to Otaki Station on June 3.

Regarding the Ohara to Otaki Station section, they have been working on repairs starting from the accident site and areas notably aging. In collaboration with JR East and other expert organizations, they have thoroughly examined measures to ensure safety. The restoration cost, including alternative transportation expenses, is estimated to be around 1.45 billion yen, and they have requested financial support from the prefecture and related cities and towns.

For the Otaki to Kazusa-Nakano Station section, they plan to continue investigating the costs and duration associated with the restoration.
