Cathay Pacific Airways’ Japan Reservations Drop 30% in July Amid Rumors of ‘Major Disaster’
On June 27, Cathay Pacific Airways started a hands-on event called “Cathay Summer Sky Festival” at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya in Chiyoda, Tokyo, where visitors can enjoy a VR (virtual reality) experience of the new business class “Aria Suite” of Boeing 777-300ER.
The VR experience lasts about 3 minutes per session. Wearing a headset, visitors can sit on the sofa inside the booth and simulate the Aria Suite’s features and in-flight services through 360-degree video. In the event area themed around summer festivals, attendees can also enjoy a yoyo fishing booth, a photo spot with an image of a sky journey tower, and a booth introducing mileage services designed like a shooting gallery. Collecting 5 stamps in a stamp rally by visiting each booth will allow participants to draw a fortune lottery for prizes.
The event is a 3-day limited offer until the 29th. The time slot each day is from 11 AM to 7 PM (on the 27th, from 12:30 PM to 6 PM). The venue is on the first floor atrium.
The Aria Suite is introduced in the new specification aircraft of the 777-300ER which started operation on October 18, 2024, in business class. Each seat is a private full-flat suite with a door, based on Collins Aerospace’s “Elements” and designed by JPA Design of the UK. The seat layout is a reverse herringbone style “1-2-1”. The central two seats can be used as a pair by lowering the partition. Each seat is equipped with a 24-inch 4K monitor compatible with Bluetooth and a wireless charger.
The new cabin specification includes 45 business class “Aria Suite” seats, 48 premium economy class seats, and 268 economy class seats, totaling 361 seats. By June, 5 out of 30 planes targeted for refurbishment have been completed and deployed on routes such as Hong Kong to London, Sydney, Vancouver, Singapore, and Beijing. It appears as “77J” on seat availability and flight status screens, allowing confirmation through seat availability consultations or flight status checks.
