Rakuten Card Surpasses 30 Million Issued Cards; Launches Campaign
Rakuten Card has announced that the number of cards issued has surpassed 30 million.
Rakuten Card began issuing the “Rakuten Card” in July 2005. In October 2021, as part of its mid-term plan, it set the “Triple Three” target of reaching 30 million credit card issues, 30 trillion yen in shopping transaction volume, and a 30% share in transaction volume. The increase in demand for contactless transactions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the continuing trend toward cashless payments, have acted as tailwinds for this growth.
From October 2022 to September 2023, the card shopping transaction volume exceeded 20 trillion yen, a 19% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
To celebrate the milestone of issuing 30 million cards, Rakuten Card is running a campaign from December 18 until January 31, 2024, where 3,000 people will be selected to win 10,000 Rakuten Points each.
