Toei Oedo Line x Ed Sheeran “Oh!Ed!” Collaboration Campaign
JR East (East Japan Railway Company) will operate revival-design trains on Tokyo’s Yamanote Line in Japan, inspired by the former 103 and 205 series. The special service marks the 100th anniversary of the line’s loop operation and will run for one month, from October 4 to November 3.
Two E235 series trainsets will be used, each wrapped in a design inspired by the 103 and 205 series, respectively. Both end cars of each set will carry an original 100th-anniversary headmark, and 100th-anniversary logos will also be applied to the sides.
On November 1, a charter train making one full loop of the Yamanote Line will operate to and from Ikebukuro Station using a wrapped set. The fare for adults is 2,500 to 3,000 yen, with applications accepted from noon on October 1.
The Yamanote Line traces its origins to the Shinagawa Line between Shinagawa and Akabane stations, which opened in 1885. The Toshima Line between Ikebukuro and Tabata stations opened in 1903, and with the completion of the elevated section between Ueno and Tokyo stations in 1925, the current loop operation began. The 103 series operated on the Yamanote Line from 1963 to 1988, and the 205 series from 1985 to 2005.
