JR Central, JR East, and JR West to Run Hida, Shinano, and Nanki All-Reserved, Dec 26–Jan 4, 2026
JR Hokkaido (Hokkaido Railway Company, Japan) has suspended operations after washouts of the track subgrade and ballast occurred on the Nemuro Line between Ikeda and Kushiro stations due to a low-pressure system on September 20.
From September 23 onward, Limited Express Ozora trains No. 3, 6, 7, and 12, which link Sapporo and Kushiro, will operate only between Sapporo and Obihiro. The segment between Obihiro and Kushiro will be covered by replacement buses connecting with the Ozora. As the buses use expressways, they will not stop at Shiranuka or Ikeda stations. All other Ozora services will be canceled over their entire routes. Local trains will be fully suspended between Ikeda and Kushiro, and partially suspended between Ikeda and Shintoku.
Between Ikeda and Kushiro, multiple large-scale washouts of the roadbed and ballast have occurred, and there is currently no estimate for restoration. The impact is about 2,700 passengers per day.
