Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has compiled an interim report on the emergency inspections of parameter settings for railway signal equipment that it ordered following the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line train collision.
Among the 186 operators and 4,760 stations subject to inspection, deficiencies in signal-equipment settings were identified at 15 stations operated by 10 companies. Authorities say safety has already been secured through equipment modifications and other measures.
Stations where deficiencies were found include: JR East — Uetsu Main Line: Shibata Station; Joetsu Line: Minakami Station; Takasaki Line: Kumagaya Station. JR West — Tokaido Main Line: Takatsuki Station and Ashiya Station; Sanyo Main Line: Tsuchiyama Station; Osaka Loop Line: Tennoji Station. Keikyu Corporation — Keikyu Main Line: Keikyu Kawasaki Station. Hankyu Railway — Kyoto Line: Katsura Station. Sapporo City Transportation Bureau — Toho Line: Motomachi Station. Shonan Monorail — Enoshima Line: Fujimicho Station. Ohmi Railway — Main Line: Yokaichi Station. Kobe Electric Railway — Arima Line: Suzurandai Station. Hiroshima Electric Railway — Miyajima Line: Hiroden-Miyajima-guchi Station. Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad (Kotoden) — Kotohira Line: Busshozan Station.
For JR East and JR West, where full inspections have not yet been completed, MLIT instructed them to finish promptly and, in the meantime, to implement safety measures such as strengthening control center monitoring and communication with train drivers.
