Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Releases 2025 Passport Statistics on “Passport Day”
GALA Yuzawa will operate night skiing at the GALA Yuzawa Snow Resort every Saturday from March 14 to April 4.
This initiative responds to growing demand for nighttime economy and the congestion at restaurants during dinner hours in the Echigo-Yuzawa area. After a trial run in 2025, GALA Yuzawa will fully resume night operations for the first time in about 30 years, having suspended them since 1996. During night operations, visitors can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and playing in the snow on the illuminated Entertainment Course in the Central Area, as well as take in the night view of Yuzawa Town from the Bell of Love observatory and the night gondola.
Night operation hours are from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the last lift boarding at 7:30 p.m. The skiable course is the Entertainment Course in the Central Area, and the “Balouche” lift will be in operation. Night tickets cost 3,000 yen for adults and 1,500 yen for elementary school students. For the return trip, in addition to shinkansen services from GALA Yuzawa Station to Tokyo, a free shuttle bus will operate to Echigo-Yuzawa Station.
An event will be held in front of the Cheers summit rest house, in which sky lanterns with written messages will be launched all at once. The number of lanterns for sale is limited to 120 per day, priced at 2,500 yen each. The launch time is 7:00 p.m. The event may be canceled on the day depending on wind conditions. A fireworks display will be held on April 4 from 7:50 p.m. in the plaza in front of Cheers. It is open to holders of gondola tickets, and viewing is free.
Inside the Cheers summit rest house, the food court “Palpal” and the restaurant “Rokka” will be open until 7:30 p.m., while “Sengyoku” in the base area “Kawabanga” will be open until 8:30 p.m. Last orders are 30 minutes before closing.
Various activities are also available. Content and prices are as follows: the “Snowmobile Sled Night Tour” is 3,500 yen for adults and 3,000 yen for children; the “Snow Kart Night Tour” and “Moon Bike Night Tour” are 5,500 yen; and the “Active Buggy Night Tour” is 8,000 yen. Age restrictions apply to some activities. Reception is open until 7:00 p.m.
JR East View Tourism & Sales is selling travel packages as special plans dedicated to night operations, combining round-trip shinkansen tickets with night tickets.
