Avelo Converts Options for Three ATR 72-600 Aircraft into Firm Orders
South Korean airline SUM Air will order up to 8 ATR 72-600 aircraft.
The order consists of 4 firm aircraft and 4 purchase options. Deliveries will begin in 2028. The contract was signed in Seoul during the France–Korea bilateral economic forum, in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron.
SUM Air was established as South Korea’s first regional airline and obtained its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in February 2025. After operating the Seoul/Gimpo–Sacheon route on an ad-hoc basis from March 12, it launched regular scheduled services on March 30. With the aim of strengthening regional connectivity within South Korea, the ordered aircraft are expected to be deployed on routes to remote island airports such as Ulleungdo, Baengnyeongdo, and Heuksando.
According to ATR, it views the South Korean market as one with significant potential demand, and forecasts that the number of ATR 72 aircraft in the country will reach between 25 and 30 units over the next several years.
