Scheduled Airlines Association of Japan Issues Emergency Statement on Soaring Jet Fuel Prices
AirAsia X will maintain its policy of positioning Bahrain as a strategic hub between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
The airline is maintaining its plan to launch flights on June 26 on the Kuala Lumpur–Bahrain–London Gatwick route, and expects the situation in the Middle East to normalize by the time operations begin.
In addition, it will review aircraft deployment on routes to Almaty, Tashkent, and Istanbul, and upsize aircraft in line with demand. As fuel costs have surged to more than double year-on-year, the airline will adjust fares appropriately and impose fuel surcharges across all routes.
At the same time, AirAsia X will work to curb operating costs through negotiations with partners and stakeholders. Cost improvements are expected as operations scale back up, and fluctuations in ASEAN currencies are projected to help ease the burden of U.S. dollar–denominated costs.
