Cases of food poisoning caused by insufficiently heated meat have occurred at multiple locations of “Steakhouse 88” and “Steakhouse 88 Jr.”, which are operated by Okinawa Techno Create.
From early to late March, enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (O26) was detected in multiple customers who had used five locations: the Onna location, Kokusai Street location, Kokusai Street West Exit location, and Chatan American Village location of “Steakhouse 88”, as well as the Aeon Naha location of “Steakhouse 88 Jr.”. Sales of the relevant steak were immediately suspended and the ingredient was replaced with an alternative. The number of people who developed symptoms is nine.
As a result of on-site inspections and swab tests conducted by the competent public health centers at several locations and the central kitchen, bacteria were detected on specific ingredients. The Chubu Public Health Center of Okinawa Prefecture and the Naha City Public Health Center imposed a five-day business suspension on April 11.
