JR East and Seibu Railway to Launch Through Trains via Musashino Line and Improve Transfer Passage Between Shin-Akitsu and Akitsu Stations
Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) will release the “Piyorin TOICA” to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the birth of “Piyorin,” a popular Nagoya specialty dessert.
On JR Central MARKET, a set that includes a wooden storage box made of paulownia is being sold for 4,980 yen including tax and shipping. The application period runs until August 31, and the quantity is limited to a maximum of 3,000 sets. The paulownia box is an SDGs-conscious product that makes use of domestically produced thinned wood, and each piece is handcrafted by artisans. The card’s available balance is 1,500 yen, with a 500-yen deposit. Each person can purchase up to 3 sets, and shipping will begin from late in the month following the order.
At station ticket vending machines and TOICA service counters, the cards will also be gradually released from late May onward for 2,000 yen (1,500 yen available balance plus a 500-yen deposit). Around 400,000 cards will be available, and sales at all applicable stations are scheduled to start by September 1. Major Shinkansen stations such as Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shin-Yokohama, Kyoto, and Shin-Osaka are excluded.
Piyorin is a fresh chick-shaped dessert made by wrapping pudding, which uses eggs from Nagoya Cochin chickens, in bavarois. Cumulative sales have exceeded 5 million pieces. It will celebrate its 15th anniversary on July 1. Anniversary events will be rolled out sequentially, including Piyorin-themed decorations at Kachigawa Station around summer, and in around autumn, a “Usawayaka Walking” event starting from Kachigawa Station.
