Kyoto Porta to Undergo Extensive Renovation Starting February, Featuring New Eateries Such as ‘Kanazawa Maimon Sushi’ and ‘Motsunabe Ooyama’

Kyoto Station’s connected commercial facility, ‘Kyoto Porta,’ will undergo a large-scale renovation from February to May.

The renovation will see the sequential opening of 19 new stores, including two western Japan firsts, two Kansai region firsts, and five Kyoto firsts, as well as 19 relocated or renovated stores, totaling 38 shops. According to JR West Kyoto SC Development, which operates Kyoto Porta, this renovation ‘is equivalent to 30% of the non-food merchandise shops’ and is ‘the most extensive renovation for merchandise shops since March 2014.’

Six new eateries, including new store concepts, will open their doors. The Kansai region’s first ‘Kanazawa Maimon Sushi Tama Hime’, a counter sushi concept from the ‘Kanazawa Maimon Sushi’ chain, will debut, as well as ‘Hakata Motsunabe Ooyama,’ which marks its first entry into Kyoto. Furthermore, ‘Soup Stock Tokyo,’ which withdrew in 2022, will make a comeback, alongside the arrival of a ‘trend-setting brand from a cafe popular worldwide’.

In line with the shop renewals, the communal areas in the southern section will also be refurbished. The redesign will include features using ‘Tango Chirimen,’ a traditional Kyoto textile, as well as the addition of photo spots. The goods stores are generally scheduled to open in March, while the eateries are expected to start operations in April or later, with details to be announced later.
