Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a regional advisory concerning the possibility of rapid changes in the situation in the Middle East.
Since July 8 (Japan time), exchanges of attacks between the United States and Iran have continued. During these exchanges, there have been announcements and reports of damage from attacks or interceptions of attacks in Iran, the Gulf countries, and Jordan. The outlook for the situation remains uncertain.
The countries and territories covered by the regional advisory are the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Israel, Iraq, Iran, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urging people currently staying in, or planning to visit, the countries and territories concerned to reconfirm the travel advisories and alerts issued for their destination. It also calls on them to obtain the latest information from multiple sources, including information on the impact of developments in the Middle East on their place of stay and flight information. Those already in the region are asked to take steps to avoid danger, including following instructions from local authorities regarding evacuation and staying away from military facilities.
In addition, under the current circumstances, the ministry urges people to strictly refrain from taking photographs or videos of military facilities or attack damage, even from a distance, as doing so may be subject to enforcement action by local authorities. It also calls for registration with “Tabi-Regi,” Japan’s overseas travel registration service, and for the submission of a residence notification by those staying for more than three months.
