Qantas Airways will gradually retire its Airbus A380 aircraft from 2028.
The Airbus A380 aircraft are configured with 14 First Class seats, 70 Business Class seats, 60 Premium Economy Class seats, and 341 Economy Class seats. Following the grounding of the entire fleet during the COVID-19 pandemic, 10 aircraft returned to service in December 2025.
The airline will begin taking delivery of 12 ultra-long-range Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft from April 2027. It has also ordered 12 Airbus A350 aircraft and 12 Boeing 787 aircraft. In addition, it is discussing with Airbus and Boeing the conversion of its existing options for 20 aircraft into firm orders from 2030 onward. The successor aircraft will have longer range, enabling the operation of all current international routes as well as the launch of new routes.
This is expected to significantly improve the profitability of international operations while also reducing operational complexity. The operating profit margin is projected to rise to 10–12% from fiscal 2032 onward.
