JR East and Others to Conduct Bulk Transport Trials Using Shinkansen, in Collaboration with Sea and Air Routes
JR East and JR East Logistics are set to conduct a bulk transport trial utilizing transit transportation by Shinkansen and others.
On March 8th, a special train from Niigata Station to Tokyo Station will transport approximately 350 boxes of fresh fish, produce, confectionery, alcoholic beverages, precision machinery parts, and medical supplies. In a new initiative, part of the cargo will be transferred to the Tokaido Shinkansen and transported to Nagoya Station in collaboration with JR Central. They will also collaborate with sea and air routes to transport goods to a wide range of areas. Some cargo will be unloaded at intermediate stations.
Utilizing the knowledge gained from previous trials, they will expand the scope of transportation in collaboration with JR companies, ferries, and airlines, and continue working towards the commercialization of bulk transport in the following fiscal year and beyond.
