The Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation will be conducting a pilot program using contactless payments such as credit and debit cards for its transit services within the year.
In collaboration with Sumitomo Mitsui Card, Visa Worldwide Japan, JCB, Omron Social Solutions, Nippon Signal, and QUADRAC, the program will utilize the ‘stera transit’ solution provided by Sumitomo Mitsui Card aimed for public transportation.
The pilot will cover approximately 20 stations on the Toei Asakusa and Oedo Lines. In collaboration with Keikyu Corporation, this initiative will mark the first time in the Tokyo metropolitan area that inter-company usage through contactless payments becomes possible.
