Tokyu to Use ‘Hikari Chime’ Inside Shinkansen-themed Wrapping Trains, Reviving a Tradition in Kanto After 21 Years
Tokyu Corporation will sequentially start using the “Hikari Chime” inside the Shinkansen-designed wrapping train cars starting July 1.
The initiative involves one set of the Series 3020 and one set of the Series 5050 4000, which operate as Shinkansen wrapping trains. The chime will be used before descending at Shin-Yokohama Station and after departing upwards. The chime to be used is a modern arrangement of the “Hikari Chime” previously used inside the Tokaido & San’yo Shinkansen trains.
The “Hikari Chime” was composed by Akihisa Matsuura and was utilized from March 1988 until November 2003. This marks the first revival broadcast in the Kanto region in 21 years.
