Japan Airlines (JAL) is collecting household waste cooking oil in Yokohama City to utilize as a source for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
In collaboration with Yokohama City, which participates in the project “FRY to FLY Project” aimed at realizing a carbon-neutral society through domestic resource recycling, household waste cooking oil is collected at Aeon Food Style stores in Kamoi, Mitsukyo, and Konandai.
The collected waste cooking oil, gathered in dedicated household collection bottles, is picked up from collection boxes installed at the stores and then transported to the SAF production facility, where it is used to manufacture SAF for aircraft operations.
A trial was conducted at the Kamoi store from March to May, with full-scale collection starting on June 5th. Collection times are daily from 8:30 AM to 11:00 PM. Mitsukyo store began its collection on July 1, while Konandai store started on July 22.
