Scheduled Airlines Association of Japan Issues Emergency Statement on Soaring Jet Fuel Prices
In anticipation of the Tanabata festival on July 7, Japan Airlines (JAL) is celebrating the “JAL Group Tanabata Festival” at both domestic and international airports.
The JAL Tanabata event, which started in 1982, marks its 42nd year. From July 1 to July 7, bamboo branches are placed at 56 domestic airports and 36 international airports, allowing airport patrons to write their wishes on strips of paper and decorate the branches.
On July 5 at Haneda Airport, children from the An-ju Kindergarten located within the airport participated in the event. Dressed in yukatas, these children performed the nursery rhymes “Tanabata-sama” and “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” to the delight of traveling passengers. Following their performance, with the help of ground staff also in yukatas, they decorated bamboo branches with strips of paper bearing wishes such as “I want to be a cake shop owner” and “I hope to become a cabin attendant”.
The strips of paper collected at the airports will be dedicated in August to the Osaki Hachiman Shrine in Sendai City. According to JAL, in 2023, a total of 17,200 strips from 55 domestic and 32 international airports were dedicated.
