Cathay Pacific has placed an order for six Airbus A350F aircraft with an option for an additional 20.
The Airbus A350F aircraft can carry up to 111 tons of cargo and has a maximum range of 8,700 kilometers. By using state-of-the-art materials for more than 70% of its structure, the aircraft’s take-off weight is lightened by 30 tons. Equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 40% compared to the Boeing 747F model and by 20% in comparison to competing aircraft.
This move is to leverage the opportunities brought about by the introduction of the third runway at Hong Kong International Airport, which will enable service to all cargo markets.
Cathay Pacific’s cargo division, Cathay Cargo, currently operates a fleet of 14 Boeing 747-8F and 6 Boeing 747-400ERF aircraft, totaling 20 freighters.
