Japan Airlines (JAL) will deploy ‘JAL SMART AIRPORT’ at four domestic airports.
The new deployments will be at Nagoya/Chubu, Oita, Kumamoto, and Kagoshima airports. The check-in counters will be revamped, and a ‘Special Assistance Counter’ will be established, along with the first introduction in Japan of new baggage claim ticket issuance machines that integrate barcode readers and scales.
This will allow passengers to easily check in their baggage by reading the barcode on the baggage tag issued by the automatic check-in machines.
Usage began in July 2020 at Haneda Airport Terminal 1 North Wing, with refurbishment of the entire airport completed in December of the same year. By June 2021, the deployment was completed at New Chitose Airport, followed by Itami Airport and Naha Airport in November 2021, and Fukuoka Airport in March 2022.
