The Wakura Onsen Tourism Association began a crowdfunding campaign on February 15 to gather support for the reconstruction of Wakura Onsen.
Due to the effects of the Noto Peninsula earthquake, 22 lodging establishments in Wakura Onsen were continuing to experience water outages as of February 10, making it difficult to foresee when recovery could happen. The damage to buildings and facilities is roughly estimated at over 100 billion yen, with around 77,000 reservations expected between January and February all cancelled, resulting in a loss of about 2 billion yen in revenue. Within Ishikawa Prefecture, Noto’s accommodations account for about 20% of the annual number of overnight stays, nearly half of which are at Wakura Onsen.
The goal is to raise 20 million yen, to be allocated to the restoration expenses of the tourist facilities in the hot spring town, as well as the costs for the offered rewards such as accommodation and meal vouchers. The campaign will run until May 15th.
