Thai Airways has announced an order for 45 Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The announcement was made at the Singapore Airshow, being held next to Singapore Changi International Airport, at the Changi Exhibition Centre.
The order will expand the airline’s Boeing wide-body fleet to 45 aircraft, aiming to capture Southeast Asia’s aviation demand, with potential future expansion to 80 aircraft.
Thai Airways operates the Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 series, serving approximately 60 cities both domestically and internationally, including the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. The new aircraft are being introduced for fleet renewal, expansion, and to open new routes. Deliveries are set to begin in 2027 and will be gradually introduced over approximately ten years.
The order was placed in December 2023, and was previously undisclosed in the order list. The engines selected for these aircraft are the GE Aerospace GEnx engines.
