Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Temporarily Closes Embassy in Haiti, Establishes Provisional Office in Dominican Republic
Due to the deteriorating situation in Haiti, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has temporarily closed its Embassy in Haiti as of April 9.
Rapid worsening of security due to riots by armed gangs was reported. The operations, including protection of Japanese nationals, have been moved to a provisional office established within the Embassy of Japan in the Dominican Republic, starting from the same day.
The entirety of Haiti is now under a Level 4 travel advisory, which is the highest rank advising evacuation. On March 29, two Japanese residents were assisted by the French government to leave Haiti.
