The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau will start selling “Shimapo Currency,” a premium accommodation voucher, from 12:00 p.m. on April 30, aiming to attract tourists to Tokyo’s island regions.
The voucher can be used at participating stores on 11 Tokyo islands (Oshima, Toshima, Niijima, Shikinejima, Kozushima, Miyakejima, Mikurajima, Hachijojima, Aogashima, Chichijima, Hahajima) and some stores in the Takeshiba Passenger Ship Terminal. It allows the purchase of 10,000 yen worth of Shimapo Currency for 7,000 yen, with up to eight sets per person, where 3,000 yen must be used at accommodations.
The validity period is until March 31, 2025, with a planned sale of 80,000 sets. The first phase will sell 70,000 sets, and the sales for the second phase are expected to start around December. Identification verification is required for purchase.
