The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised the threat level for New Caledonia to Level 2, advising against non-essential travel.
Since May 13th in New Caledonia, intensified protests by separatist groups have led to road blockades, looting, and arson attacks on buildings and vehicles. On May 15th, in response to the worsening security situation, French President Macron declared a state of emergency throughout the territory.
