Emirates Conducts Low Altitude Flight of A380 to Celebrate Double Daily Service to Johannesburg

Emirates has conducted its first low altitude flight of an Airbus A380 in South Africa.

The airline celebrated the commencement of double daily Airbus A380 services on the Dubai-Johannesburg route starting September 1. This was prepared over several months in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of South Africa and the Airports Company South Africa.

Aligned with the match between South Africa and New Zealand at the Emirates Airline Park (Ellis Park Stadium), the aircraft took off from Johannesburg at 4 PM and flew at a speed of 140 knots. After the anthems of both countries, at 4:59 PM, it flew over the stadium at an altitude of 500 feet (approximately 150 meters).

Captain Mubarak Al Mheiri, who has been involved in various flights including the UAE National Day celebration flight, formation flying with civilian aircraft at the Dubai Air Show, and flying around the top of Burj Khalifa with a cabin crew member standing at the top for Dubai Expo advertisements, was in command.
