JR East to Operate Overnight Trains on 7 Lines in the Tokyo Area from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day
Green Car Service to be Introduced in Spring 2025 on the Chuo Line Rapid and Ome Line
JR East Japan will introduce Green Car services on the Chuo Line Rapid and Ome Line in spring 2025.
The service will be operated between Tokyo and Otsuki stations and between Tachikawa and Ome stations. All trains running on the Chuo Line Rapid, operated with the E233 series, and all trains directly connecting with the Chuo Line Rapid towards Tokyo on the Ome Line, will feature this service. Two double-decked Green Cars will be placed near the Tokyo end, in the fourth and fifth cars of the E233 series trains, operating as a 12-car formation. The Green Car fares are expected to be consistent with those of other lines in the metropolitan area.
Seats will be rotating reclining seats equipped with AC power outlets, tables, and drink holders. Inside the car, Wi-Fi, toilets, and trash cans will also be available, along with service from Green Attendants.
To reduce the preparation time at terminal stations, double doors for smooth boarding and alighting, wide decks, and automatic rotating seats will be adopted for the first time in double-decked Green Cars, securing a total seating capacity of 180 seats across both cars, as before.
During the period leading up to the service launch, a “Green Car Trial Period” will be conducted without the need for a Green Car fare. Until spring 2025, 10-car and 12-car formations will operate concurrently.
