Crime Alert for Munich’s Oktoberfest: Over 1,800 Incidents Last Year
The Consulate-General of Japan in Munich is calling for caution as there has been a surge in crime among attendees at the Oktoberfest held in Munich.
The Oktoberfest in Munich, the world’s largest beer festival, is held from September 21 to October 6, attracting around 6 million visitors.
In 2023, a total of 1,093 criminal incidents occurred at the venue, with the police being called out 1,854 times, averaging 103 times per day. The main crimes included 268 cases of assault and battery, 793 sexual offenses (including rape), 368 drug-related crimes, and 143 cases of pickpocketing.
The Consulate-General of Japan in Munich advises that large-scale events, which attract a vast number of visitors, can become targets for terrorism and general crime, warranting extra special caution at all times.
