United Airlines to Offer New Canned Wines on Domestic Economy Flights
United Airlines has started offering new wine options in economy class on domestic flights in the United States from October 1st.
In addition to the traditional red and white wines, rosé and brut sparkling wines are now available. These were overwhelmingly popular when offered in the airline’s United Polaris business class.
The canned wines being introduced include “Just Enough Wines Rosé” from the female-led brand Just Enough Wines, and “Maker Brut Bubbles” from Maker Wine. Each can is 250 milliliters, equivalent to one and a half glasses of wine, and priced at 12 US dollars.
This year, United Airlines has served over 20 million cups of wine, 1.5 times more than beer or spirits. This includes more than 3.2 million cups on domestic flights alone. In response to the growing demand for canned wines, the airline will switch from plastic mini wine bottles, reducing the use of an estimated 4.7 million disposable plastic bottles per year.
