Meiji University Acquires Yamanoue Hotel for Renovation
Meiji University has acquired the land and buildings of Yamanoue Hotel on November 15th.
Located in Kanda Surugadai, Tokyo, Yamanoue Hotel is renowned for being used by numerous literary figures such as Yasunari Kawabata, Yukio Mishima, and Shotaro Ikenami. Due to considerations for counteracting the aging of the building, it will be temporarily closed from February 13, 2024, for an indeterminate period.
As part of its 150th founding anniversary project, Meiji University plans to undertake a redevelopment. It aims to preserve the current facade while conducting necessary renovations to continue hotel operations. Additionally, it is considering how to utilize the space for student support, community engagement, and social collaboration functions.
