Airbus Forecasts Demand for 19,500 New Aircraft in Asia-Pacific Region Over Next 20 Years
Airbus has announced a forecast predicting a demand for 19,500 new aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region over the next 20 years.
The announcement was made by Anand Stanley, Airbus President for the Asia-Pacific region, at the annual general meeting of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) held in Brunei.
Including China and India, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to see an annual increase of 3% in new aircraft demand, driven by growth and the need for fleet renewal. The global demand is predicted to be 42,430 aircraft, with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for 46% of this. The passenger traffic growth rate is expected to surpass the global average, at 4.8% annually.
Of this, about 16,000 single-aisle aircraft such as the Airbus A220 and Airbus A320neo family, and approximately 3,500 wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A330neo and Airbus A350 are anticipated to be needed. About 71% of the aircraft deliveries will be for fleet expansion, with the remaining 29% for the replacement of older aircraft, significantly contributing to decarbonization efforts.
The freighter market is also expected to require 250 new wide-body freighter aircraft, which corresponds to 10% of the global demand for new freighter aircraft.
