The British government’s tourism agency, VisitBritain, has projected that the number of visitors from Japan in 2024 will see a rapid increase of 50% over the previous year.
The expected visitor spending amount is 349 million pounds (a 43% increase from the previous year, a 6% decrease from 2019), with the number of visitors anticipated to be 338,000 (a 50% increase from the previous year, a 13% decrease from 2019). The recovery of flights and seat availability from Japan is continuing, and reservations are also increasing. The spending amount is predicted to return to the 2019 level by 2025, and the number of visitors by 2026.
According to the latest survey, 70% of Japanese travelers considering travel to the UK are interested in visiting filming locations of movies and TV dramas during their trip.
In forecasts updated May 21 for the whole world, it was anticipated that expenditure would fall below the inflation rate, and the recovery in the number of visitors would plateau in 2023.
From November 20 to 22, VisitBritain will host a trade fair, ‘Destination Britain Middle East & Asia,’ in Bengaluru, India, to facilitate meetings and networking events among travel industry professionals, including buyers invited from Japan, Asia, and the Middle East, as well as seminars. The spending per visit from these markets amounts to 1,836 pounds, more than double the average across all markets.
