JR East to Deploy New HB-E220 Series Trains in Takasaki and Morioka Areas
JR East is set to introduce the new HB-E220 series trains in the Takasaki and Morioka areas.
Equipped with a diesel hybrid system that generates power either independently or by combining a diesel engine generator with batteries, these trains reduce environmental impact compared to conventional liquid-fuel railcars. The doors have increased from two to three per side, and the trains feature wheelchair and stroller-friendly free spaces, a Western-style toilet compatible with electric wheelchairs, and are equipped with security cameras and emergency communication devices.
The Takasaki area will receive eight two-car sets, and the Morioka area will receive six two-car sets and four single-car sets, totaling 32 cars. The planned service areas include the section between Komagawa and Takasaki Station on the Hachiko Line in the Takasaki area, and the sections between Hanamaki and Morioka Station on the Tohoku Main Line, and Hanamaki and Kamaishi Station on the Kamaishi Line in the Morioka area.
