JR East to Operate Overnight Trains on 7 Lines in the Tokyo Area from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day
Tokaido Shinkansen Expands Extra “Nozomi” Services, Up to 14 Trains Departing Tokyo Station in the Early Morning
JR Central will enhance convenience on the Tokaido Shinkansen by increasing the number of temporary “Nozomi” services and reserved seating in ordinary cars.
Up to 14 “Nozomi” trains will be operated in the early morning hours from the Tokyo metropolitan area, scheduled on weekends during the Osaka-Kansai Expo completion period and on days with high traffic from the Tokyo metropolitan area to the Kansai region. Additionally, one temporary “Nozomi” train from Tokyo Station to Shin-Osaka Station will be scheduled in the last train slot.
Furthermore, for peak usage times, one additional temporary “Nozomi” train per hour will be added that directly connects to the Sanyo Shinkansen, operating up to 8 “Nozomi” trains.
All Nozomi trains on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines will have their Car No. 3 seats converted from non-reserved to reserved. Additionally, starting from December, about half of the shared toilets in 16-car trains will be designated for female use only.
