JR East to Operate Overnight Trains on 7 Lines in the Tokyo Area from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day
Izu Hakone Railway Offers Contactless Payment for Boarding on Sunzu Line Starting December 18
Izu Hakone Railway has started accepting contactless payments for boarding trains on the Sunzu Line from December 18.
This initiative is conducted in collaboration with Mitsui Sumitomo Card, JCB, Odawara Equipment, and QUADRAC, utilizing Mitsui Sumitomo Card’s “stera transit” service.
Users can board the train by touching their contactless payment cards or smartphones on a dedicated pole-type terminal installed at stations. The supported brands include Visa, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, and UnionPay. Mastercard will be added to the supported brands in the future.
In case of boarding the express train “Odoriko”, a boarding ticket is required instead of using contactless payment. The sale of standard boarding tickets with credit cards, which had been available at Mishima and Shuzenji stations, will essentially end. However, ticket sales will continue for using the express “Odoriko” or for cards not supported by the contactless payment system.
