Uber Launches ‘Uber Premium’ in Osaka City
Autonomous Taxi Testing to Begin by 2025 Through Collaboration Between GO, Waymo, and Nihon Kotsu
GO, Waymo, and Nihon Kotsu have established a strategic partnership to introduce autonomous taxis in Tokyo.
Leveraging the “Waymo Driver” autonomous driving technology from Waymo, which operates under Alphabet in the United States, adjustments will be made for left-hand traffic roads outside the U.S. for the first time. The initial phase is set to start in central Tokyo in 2025. Nihon Kotsu drivers will operate Waymo vehicles to conduct tests aimed at introducing Waymo’s autonomous driving technology on public roads in Tokyo. The targeted areas include Minato Ward, Shinjuku Ward, Shibuya Ward, Chiyoda Ward, Chuo Ward, Shinagawa Ward, and Koto Ward.
