Jeju Airplane Accident: Flight Recorder to be Analyzed in the USA
The South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that the flight recorder from Jeju Air 7C2216, which was severely damaged at Muan International Airport, will be analyzed in the United States.
A joint investigation team consisting of 12 members from Korea’s Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (ARAIB) and 10 members from the United States Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board, and Boeing, making a total of 22 members, is continuing the on-site investigation.
ARAIB is converting the material extracted from the voice recorder into audio files, a process expected to take about two days. The flight recorder was deemed impossible to extract data from domestically and, in cooperation with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), it was agreed to analyze it in the United States. Departure is planned as soon as the specific schedule and ARAIB participants are determined.
The identities of all 179 passengers and crew members who died have been confirmed.
