
Azabudai Hills to End General Public Access to Free “Observatory” Overlooking Tokyo Tower, Available Until April 17
The state of Hawaii in the USA has passed the green fee law.
From 2026, the Transient Accommodations Tax will be raised from the current 10.25% to 11%. When combined with value-added tax and other charges, the total will be 19%.
Additionally, taxes will also be collected from cruise ships, which were previously exempted as temporary accommodations. Stays at hotels and private lodgings for less than 180 days will be subject to this tax.
This initiative aims to secure funding for climate change measures and sustainable tourism, and it will be the first of its kind in the United States. Annual additional tax revenue is expected to reach 100 million USD.
